MLK Day of Service a Big Success!

More than 40 Chestnut Hill Rotary volunteers collected, sorted, and delivered a dozen carloads of warm clothing, food, and medical supplies to Prevention Point Philadelphia (PPP) in honor of Martin Luther King's Day of Service. 

Chestnut Hill Rotary has a tradition over the past few years collecting donations from members, friends and neighbors of the local community and deliver to PPP for use by their clients.

Successful STEM Camp with Conflict Resolution Component

Reverend Linda Ivey, MSW, Germantown Faith Communities Against Gun Violence, gave an engaging report on the success and challenges of the initiative help curb violence through a summer STEM camp with a strong conflict resolution component at a resent Chestnut Hill Rotary breakfast program. Due to the success of the program, the University asked Reverend Ivey to contribute again next year.

Hill Journalist on DC Dysfunction

Veteran Capitol Hill journalist David Hawkings will speak about congressional dysfunction at an upcoming Rotary Club of Chestnut Hill breakfast meeting.

Hawkings, who has covered Capitol Hill for three decades, will present "The 5 Ms That Explain Our Dysfunctional Congress" at the Dec. 13 meeting. He argues that Congress is more broken now than it has been in over a century.

“It's Not Just a Gift — It's Access to Knowledge”

Chestnut Hill Rotary has a long history of supporting education both by providing grants for educational initiatives and through direct hands-on service projects to nearby schools that are part of The School District of Philadelphia.

In particular, the club has been purchasing new dictionaries and distributing to several hundred 3rd grade students annually to take home. In some cases, this is one of the few books that students have of their own.

Veteran Capitol Hill Journalist to Speak on Congressional Dysfunction at Chestnut Hill Rotary Breakfast Meeting

David Hawkings, journalist covering Capitol Hill for three decades, will be speaking at the Rotary Club of Chestnut Hill breakfast program on December 13, 7:30 am, Center on the Hill, 8855 Germantown Avenue, Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill. The public is invited to attend the meeting which will include a short question and answer session.

Hawkings, convinced that Congress is more broken now than in more than a century, will present: “The 5 Ms That Explain Our Dysfunctional Congress.”

Chestnut Hill Rotary Members Visit the Pennsylvania State Capitol

Members of the Chestnut Hill Rotary, Sylvia Lanka Barone and Elliot Schwartz, organized a full-day tour to the PA State Capitol in Harrisburg, an architectural and artistic treasure. Members received a guided tour of The House Chamber, The Senate Chamber, The Pennsylvania Supreme Court, and the Governor's Reception Room. During the tours, member met with PA Senator Art Haywood and PA State Representatives Christopher Rabb and Tarik Khan.
