One of Chestnut Hill Rotary's partner schools, J.S. Jenks Academy for the Arts and Sciences, received the prestigious Lindback Distinguished Principal Award, recognizing their International Baccalaureate Program.
The award was given to honor the school’s Principal and Chestnut Hill Rotary member Corrine Scioli, for her exceptional leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the school's community. Scioli was only one of seven school principals in the School District of Philadelphia to receive this recognition, which comes with a $20,000 to support programs of their choice.
Since 2011, Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Foundation of Philadelphia has been recognizing and rewarding school principals who have made significant leadership and humanitarian contributions to his/her school community. The Lindback Distinguished Principal Award is the highest financial level issued each year and recognizes and rewards school principals who have made significant leadership and humanitarian contributions to his/her school community.
"I am humbled by the opportunity to serve as your principal, knowing that my role is not one of authority but of service, said Scioli to the school community. "It is a privilege to work alongside such talented and passionate individuals, and I am continually inspired by your dedication to our students and their success."
With funds from the Lindback Foundation, the school plans to create welcoming and collaborative spaces for the school's community to gather, including a remodeling of the cafeteria into a multipurpose space including an International Baccalaureate Collaboration Center space.
“Principal Scioli recognizes the importance of community partnerships in advancing our shared mission of educational excellence,” wrote Erin Younis, International Baccalaureate Coordinator for the school. “She has worked tirelessly to cultivate strong relationships with local businesses, nonprofit organizations, and parents and families, leveraging their support to enhance the educational experience for our students and enrich our school community as a whole.”
“I believe in being a global steward and that this opportunity helps us develop human intrinsic values in tandem with global issues. I believe that this will support educational equity and help every student achieve their full potential and dreams to lead systemic change,” Scioli wrote.
Jenks is one of Chestnut Hill Rotary’s partner schools, where members individually volunteer time to read to students and take on larger-scale projects like refurbishing and painting classrooms in cooperation with other community organizations. Funding provided by Chestnut Hill Rotary helped reopen the school’s library, one of only a few dozen in The School District of Philadelphia.
“I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for your unwavering support, dedication, and passion for education,” Scioli wrote.
