Club meeting, February 22, 2017 - Amigos de Jesus
Emelia Pettinger spoke of the work of Amigos de Jesus in supporting a home for abandoned children in Honduras. The organization was founded in 1997, and now supports 127 children aged 5-25. There is an on-site bilingual school (English and Spanish). The school is good enough to attract children from the neighboring area who are not in residence. The school includes some vocational education. The staff of Amigos lives on site, though it also houses volunteers who come for approximately a year at a time. This was the experience of Emelia, who worked with the home after graduating from college and has now decided to make this organization her career. The institution has a strong note of Catholic spirituality.
